Macron faces protocol misstep during NATO welcome ceremony

French President Emmanuel Macron was involved in an awkward exchange with Türkiye’s First Lady Emine Erdoğan during a welcoming ceremony at the NATO summit.

As Macron approached Emine Erdoğan, the wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, he appeared to attempt to kiss her hand in a gesture of respect. She responded by politely but firmly holding his wrist, preventing him from completing the gesture.

The brief interaction occurred in public view during official proceedings at the summit.
