Magnitude 3.7 earthquake hits southern Kazakhstan

An 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck southern Kazakhstan on January 5, according to local and international monitoring agencies.
Preliminary data from the Kazakhstan Data Centre, indicate that the tremor occurred at 10:15 a.m. local time. The epicentre was located near the border between the Zhambyl and Almaty regions, approximately 30 kilometres north of the village of Otar, Caliber.Az reports via Kazakh media.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) provided a slightly higher estimate, measuring the earthquake at magnitude 4.2. According to the EMSC, the epicentre was situated about 88 kilometres northeast of the town of Korday.
