Magnitude 5.2 quake strikes Kyrgyzstan, tremors felt in Almaty

 A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Kyrgyzstan on August 12, with tremors felt in Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty.

The earthquake occurred at 1:14 p.m. Astana time on August 12, according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. The epicentre was located at a depth of approximately 6 kilometres, Kazakh media reports. 

The epicentre was about 127 kilometres southeast of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan’s capital, and approximately 71 kilometers northwest of Naryn.

Residents of Almaty described feeling tremors and shared accounts on social media. 

There was no immediate official assessment of the intensity of the tremors in Almaty, and authorities had not reported any damage or casualties in the city.
