Magnitude 5.7 earthquake hits off Kamchatka coast

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on July 31, according to regional seismological authorities.
RBC, citing the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Survey of the Russian Academy of Sciences, reported that the epicentre was located about 130 kilometres from the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
The earthquake’s hypocentre was recorded at a depth of 18.5 kilometres, seismologists said.
Preliminary assessments indicated that shaking in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky reached an intensity of up to 4.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, and no tsunami warning was issued.
