Mass detentions in Türkiye: Bursa mayor among 55 held in corruption probe Photo
Turkish authorities have detained 55 individuals, including the mayor of Bursa, Mustafa Bozbey, as part of a large-scale anti-corruption operation targeting alleged misconduct within the city’s administration.
According to a statement from the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the investigation centres on claims that municipal employees were involved in a systematic bribery scheme. Prosecutors allege that officials approved illegal expansions of construction projects in exchange for financial benefits, allowing buildings to exceed legally permitted limits, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.

The suspects are also accused of money laundering and forming a criminal organisation. While 55 individuals are currently in custody, police operations are ongoing, with efforts underway to locate four additional suspects believed to be connected to the case.
This operation marks the latest in a series of high-profile anti-corruption investigations across Türkiye in recent years. Several mayors and local officials have previously been arrested on similar allegations, particularly involving land-use violations and financial misconduct.
