Mass food poisoning incident reported in Türkiye’s Trabzon
A total of 59 individuals were hospitalised in the Hayrat district of Trabzon province, Türkiye, following a suspected mass food poisoning incident that occurred after a community Mawlid celebration.
Attendees began experiencing symptoms of nausea and vomiting shortly after consuming a meal consisting of chicken and rice, which had been served as part of the communal gathering held at midday, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Emergency medical teams responded swiftly, transferring the affected individuals to various hospitals across the region for treatment. Medical staff confirmed symptoms consistent with foodborne illness, prompting immediate public health concern.
In a statement released later in the day, the Trabzon Governor’s Office confirmed that all 59 individuals received medical attention and have since been discharged following successful treatment.
Local authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the source of the suspected contamination. Health officials are currently conducting laboratory analyses of food samples and collecting witness statements to establish the cause of the outbreak.
