Massive drug bust in Istanbul: NARKOKAPAN-14 dismantles trafficking network
In a blow to drug trafficking networks, Türkiye’s Interior Ministry has successfully executed Operation NARKOKAPAN-14 in Istanbul, aimed at dismantling illicit drug operations within the city.
The operation, as confirmed by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, resulted in the seizure of large quantities of narcotics and the detention of numerous suspects involved in the distribution of illegal substances, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.
According to Yerlikaya, the operation led to the confiscation of 25.5 kilograms of heroin, 17 kilograms of methamphetamine, and various quantities of skunk, cocaine, and psychotropic pills. In addition to the drugs, authorities seized substantial amounts of foreign currency and Turkish lira, underscoring the financial scale of the trafficking operations.
A total of 153 individuals suspected of being involved in drug distribution were apprehended during the operation, which is being hailed as a major success in Türkiye's ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade. The operation highlights the government's continued commitment to eliminating organized crime and safeguarding public health.
The Interior Ministry has indicated that this operation forms part of a larger strategy to target and dismantle drug trafficking networks across the country, reinforcing Türkiye's zero-tolerance stance towards illegal drug distribution. The authorities are continuing their efforts to ensure that those responsible for the spread of illicit substances are brought to justice.
