Mayor of Türkiye's Balışeyh and his driver fatally shot in armed attack
Hilmi Şen, Mayor of Balışeyh town in Türkiye's Kırıkkale, and his driver, Mikail Çelikkol, were fatally wounded in an armed attack carried out by the mayor's own nephew, Erdem Şen.
The incident occurred around 10:00 AM, while Mayor Şen and his driver were en route to a construction site, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
In the Balışeyh district of Kırıkkale, Mayor Hilmi Şen and his driver, Mikail Çelikkol, were fatally wounded in an armed attack carried out by the mayor's own nephew, Erdem Şen.
Kırıkkale Governor Mehmet Makas, speaking to the press outside the hospital, explained that a confrontation had taken place prior to the attack, escalating into an armed conflict. Five people were transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, both Mayor Şen and his driver could not be saved. The remaining three injured individuals are receiving care at the university hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
Governor Makas confirmed that Erdem Şen, the mayor’s nephew, has been apprehended by the district police chief and is now in custody.
In his initial statement, Erdem Şen reportedly claimed he carried out the attack because his uncle had promised him a job but had not fulfilled the commitment. An investigation into the incident is underway.
