Media: Armenian Defence Ministry getting rid of pro-Russian elements
Personnel reshuffle in the Armenian Defence Ministry will continue.
Lt-Gen Edvard Asryan, who was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces in July 2022, will also be dismissed soon, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian Hraparak newspaper.
“The information has gone viral that Defence Minister Suren Papikyan is creating the military elite according to his preferences. He has his own candidate for the post of future head of the General Staff. This is one of Papikyan’s closest people, who earlier served as the head of the Vazgen Sargsyan Military University of the Defence Ministry,” the message says.
“However, according to the staff of the Defence Ministry, Artur Eroyan is an experienced military man, but he will not be appointed head of the General Staff soon. A few days ago we wrote about the expected dismissal of officials in the Armenian Defence Ministry. According to our data, the regime initiated the process of purges of pro-Russian elements and decided to create a military elite to its own preference,” the message says.
