Media: Armenian parliament speaker considered for presidency

Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan may be appointed president of Armenia, replacing incumbent President Vahagn Khachaturyan.
The issue was discussed during a meeting of the executive committee of the ruling Civic Contract party. Khachaturyan could move to the position of chief adviser to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Armenian media reports.
According to the reports, Khachaturyan may leave office before completing his current term. Several names were reportedly considered as potential candidates for the presidency, including Prime Minister Pashinyan's Chief of Staff Arayik Harutyunyan, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, and Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.
