Media: Finnish Armed Forces start purchasing anti-personnel mines
The Finnish Armed Forces have launched a project to procure anti-personnel mines.
“The Finnish Defence Forces are launching a project to equip themselves with anti-personnel mines. Our goal is to acquire modern and simple mines and start their production as quickly as possible,” Colonel Riku Mikkonen, inspector of the sapper units, told Helsingin Sanomat.
The price and quantity of the mines to be purchased will be determined later. It is expected that the cheapest mines will cost around €20, while more expensive models could reach several hundred euros.
Currently, the Defence Forces plan to start with inexpensive and easy-to-use mines, then move on to more high-tech models featuring modern sensors, remote control, and self-neutralisation capabilities.
The newspaper reports that the new mines are being developed by the Defence Forces in cooperation with the Finnish defence industry, with the aim of producing them in Finland.
