Media: Freight wagons carrying defence equipment derail in Kazakhstan

22 December 2025 11:00

On December 20, three freight cars derailed in Kazakhstan’s Zhambyl Region, with two carrying military equipment belonging to the Ministry of Defence, according to the local outlet NUR.KZ.

The Telegram channel Pisma Prezidentu, citing some sources, reported that the derailment occurred during the splitting of wagons from a marshalling hump, resulting in a side collision of the three cars. All three wagons left the rails on all wheelsets and toppled to the side. The incident damaged handrails and ladders on 40 additional wagons.

The press service of Kazakhstan Railways JSC confirmed that the incident took place at 21:25 local time at Turksib station during shunting operations. A moving freight train was involved in a side collision with the splitting wagons.

"There were no casualties or injuries as a result of the incident. There were no delays to train services, and the incident did not affect the timetable of other trains," the JSC said.

"Repair work was carried out promptly. Currently, the Turksib station is operating normally," the company added.
