Media: French PM heads to Élysée Palace to submit resignation

French Prime Minister François Bayrou is set to arrive at the Élysée Palace at noon to submit his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron, BFMTV reports.

“Around noon,” a source close to the French premier told the channel, adding that the resignation letter has already been prepared.

However, even after the president accepts Bayrou’s and his government’s resignation, ministers will continue performing their duties until a new prime minister is appointed and forms a new cabinet.

According to La Tribune, the Élysée Palace hopes that President Macron will make a decision on the new candidate by September 21, ahead of his trip to New York for the UN General Assembly session.
