Trump signals possible resumption of Iran talks in coming days
US President Donald Trump has suggested that negotiations between Washington and Tehran could resume in the coming days.
“You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there,” Trump said in an interview with The New York Post, referring to Pakistan’s capital as a potential venue for renewed contacts between the United States and Iran.
Trump also praised the role of Asim Munir, Pakistan’s army chief, in the previous round of US–Iran negotiations. “He’s fantastic, and therefore it’s more likely that we go back there. Why should we go to some country that has nothing to do with it?” he said. He did not specify who might be part of the US delegation but confirmed that he does not plan to attend the potential talks in person.
In addition, the president expressed dissatisfaction with media leaks suggesting that Washington could agree to an approximately 20-year moratorium on Iran’s uranium enrichment. “I’ve been saying they can’t have nuclear weapons, so I don’t like the 20 years.<…> I don’t want them [Iran] to feel like they have a win,” Trump emphasised.
