US to deport CIA informant worked undercover to infiltrate Al-Qaeda
The administration of US President Donald Trump is seeking to deport Kosovo-born Blerim Skoro, who claims he worked undercover for US intelligence and infiltrated Al-Qaeda following the September 11 attacks.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained the 55-year-old Skoro on August 3 in New Jersey, where he had gone to renew his documents, Caliber.Az reports, citing CBS News.
His lawyers have asked a federal court to halt his deportation.
According to them, Skoro was promised a residence permit in exchange for years of cooperation with the CIA, which helped US authorities identify members of Al-Qaeda, Al-Shabaab and Hezbollah.
FBI documents identified that Skoro began cooperating with US authorities after being arrested for heroin trafficking in 2000.
From 2002 to 2006, while in prison, he provided information about suspected militants.
According to the documents, Skoro was an informant in the case involving Osama bin Laden, and some of the information he provided was deemed “actionable” and “reliable.”
