Munich-Hanoi flight nearly ends in disaster during takeoff VIDEO
A passenger plane carrying more than 280 people narrowly avoided a crash while taking off from Munich Airport in Germany, Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.
The newspaper said the Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 scheduled to fly from Munich to Hanoi on August 15 ran out of runway during takeoff and lifted off late, Caliber.Az reports.
During the rotation, its tail struck the ground, sending up a cloud of dust. The plane soon returned to the airport.
According to Aviation Herald, the aircraft’s tail section was damaged, and the tyres on one of its landing gear units burst. Citing video footage of the incident, the outlet reported that the brakes on the right landing gear were activated about 200 meters before the end of the runway, with the wheels locking as the aircraft was leaving the runway.
German and Vietnamese aviation and law enforcement authorities are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
“It is necessary to examine additional facts concerning human and technological factors, as well as the organisational circumstances,” the newspaper quoted a representative of Germany’s Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation as saying.
