Media: Hamas leader Sinwar seeks ceasefire deal with Israel
Yahya Sinwar, the newly appointed head of the Palestinian Hamas politburo, has reportedly expressed a desire to secure a ceasefire and negotiate a hostage release agreement with Israel.
Sinwar is eager to finalize the deal before tensions surrounding Iran escalate further, Caliber.Az reports, citing an Israeli TV channel.
Sources within Hamas, cited by the TV channel, revealed that Sinwar communicated a lengthy message to key members of the movement's leadership based outside the Gaza Strip. In this message, he urged them to push for a ceasefire with Israel, anticipating a potential Iranian strike.
The report also highlights Sinwar's strained relations with Tehran and the internal pressures he faces from Hamas's military leadership. He allegedly instructed the leadership members in Qatar to refrain from interfering in the negotiation process with Israel, specifying that only his deputy, Khalil al-Haya, and politburo member Ghazi Hamad, who recently left Gaza for Beirut, are authorized to participate in the talks.
Yahya Sinwar, who was elected as the leader of Hamas's politburo on August 6, succeeded Ismail Haniyeh, the former head, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike on his residence in Tehran. Haniyeh had been in Iran to attend the inauguration of President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian when the strike occurred.
