Media: Iran may elect new Supreme Leader after March 6
04 March 2026 00:19
Iran may hold the election of a new Supreme Leader after March 6, following the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei by the United States and Israel, according to a source cited by the Fars news agency.
The final in-person meeting of the Assembly of Experts — the body responsible for selecting the country’s Supreme Leader — could be postponed until after the funeral ceremony for the “martyred leader,” which is scheduled for next week. In Iran, the working week begins on Saturday.
The source said that special security measures have been implemented to ensure the Assembly of Experts can convene safely for the decisive session.
No further details were provided regarding potential candidates or the exact date of the vote.
