Media: Israel amends US-proposed Gaza peace proposal
Amid continued Israeli military operations in Gaza, sIsrael has introduced significant amendments to a US-proposed peace plan aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza, sources familiar with the negotiations told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.
The changes, described as diluting the original framework, have left key aspects of the plan unclear and difficult to implement, sources say.
The proposed plan, initially presented by US President Donald Trump, contains 21 clauses designed to halt hostilities and address broader regional peace.
While Israeli officials have expressed optimism over progress following discussions between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US envoy Steve Whitkoff, and advisor Jared Kushner, some analysts view this optimism as stemming from the ambiguity introduced by the amendments. The only clearly defined elements appear to be the release of Israeli hostages and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
President Trump recently stated that he received “a very good response” from Israel and Arab leaders regarding the peace proposal, which he discussed during meetings at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Trump expressed hope that the plan, intended not only to end the Gaza war but also to foster broader Middle East peace, would be finalised during his upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House.
