Media: Nearly half of Norwegians support boycott of Israel
Military action in the Gaza Strip has led to an increase in hostility towards Israel, which is evidenced by a public opinion poll conducted in Norway
Some 47% of respondents are in favour of boycotting the Jewish state and only 27 oppose it. Those in favour of the boycott prevail among supporters of most parties - except for the Christian People's Party and the Progress Party. Support for the boycott is greatest among voters of radical left-wing parties, Verdens Gang reports.
Moreover, 31% of respondents expressed confidence that the Norwegian authorities are not doing enough to support the Palestinians. 37% support the government's current position of declarative condemnation of Israel. Only 6% believe that the authorities should be more active in supporting Israel.
Experts quoted by the publication draw a parallel between Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip and Russia's actions in Ukraine. They note that Norway will not impose anti-Israeli sanctions on its own, but they do not rule out that this could be done within the framework of the European Union.
