Media: North Korea's FM to revisit Russia in 2024 Signal of deepening ties

North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Seong-hee is set to visit Russia for the second time this year.

The visit coincides with North Korea preparing for a parliamentary session that is expected to approve measures escalating tensions with South Korea, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.

This high-level exchange underscores the strengthening ties between Pyongyang and Moscow.

The timing of the visit aligns with a shift in North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s stance towards Seoul and Washington. Recent developments include Kim Jong-un’s announcement of a plan to remove the concept of peaceful reunification with South Korea from the North Korean constitution and heightened tensions over the Yellow Sea maritime border.

The Supreme People’s Assembly, scheduled for October 7, is anticipated to formalize the removal of the “peaceful reunification” concept from the constitution.

Choi Seong-hee’s upcoming trip follows her January visit to Moscow, where she met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This visit also comes on the heels of Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu’s recent trip to Pyongyang for discussions with Kim Jong-un. Shoigu has made two visits to North Korea this year.
