Pakistan, Afghanistan agree on temporary ceasefire at Taliban's request VIDEO / UPDATED

15 October 2025 17:41

Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban movement have agreed on a temporary 48-hour ceasefire at the request of the Afghan Taliban regime, Geo News reports, citing Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"At the request of the Afghan Taliban regime, and with mutual consent, Pakistan and the Taliban have agreed to a temporary ceasefire for 48 hours, effective from 6pm this evening," the Foreign Office said in a statement.

The Pakistani foreign ministry stated that during this period, the parties will conduct constructive dialogue aimed at finding a "positive and sustainable solution" to the issue.

Earlier, the Pakistani military carried out targeted strikes on key Taliban strongholds in Kandahar province, Afghanistan. According to sources, the strikes destroyed the 4th Battalion and the 6th Border Brigade of the Taliban, resulting in the deaths of dozens of Afghan and foreign militants.

At the same time, militants attempted to enter Pakistan through the Turkmenzai border area in the Momand district. Sources said the attempt was aimed at initiating terrorist activities on Pakistani territory.

Sources in the security forces also reported that the timely and decisive response of Pakistani forces foiled the plot, forcing the Afghan Taliban to rely on Fitna al-Khawarij elements to continue their operations. A large formation sent across the border was completely neutralized in Mohmand, where at least 30 militants were killed.

Sources reiterated that the Pakistani army has all the capabilities to respond to any external aggression. Operations continue, with reports of new militant casualties.

Additionally, sources in the security forces stated that the strong and decisive retaliatory strikes by the Pakistani army threw the Afghan Taliban into panic. Defeated and suffering heavy human and material losses, the Taliban were forced to resort to false propaganda to conceal their failures.

Sources added that a Taliban representative shared a propaganda post on social media in a futile attempt to spread disinformation. They stated that recent Pakistani operations targeted the leadership of Fitna al-Hindustan in Kabul.

Sources in the security forces also reported that the Pakistani armed forces successfully repelled Taliban aggression and remain unwavering in defending the homeland, despite the group’s false propaganda.

Pakistani state media released video footage of an airstrike by Pakistani forces against Afghan Taliban militants in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province.

The Pakistani army also stated that between 15 and 20 members of the Afghan Taliban movement have been killed so far.

Amaj News sources report that Pakistani fighter jets bombed the Taimani district of Kabul just minutes ago.

The Afghan Taliban movement remains silent.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistan Army reported that in the early hours of October 15, Afghan Taliban carried out “cowardly attacks at four locations in the Spin Boldak district,” which were effectively repelled by Pakistani forces, according to Dawn newspaper.

The statement noted that between 15 and 20 Taliban fighters were killed during the counterattack, while several others were injured.

“The situation continues to develop. Reports indicate further troop buildup in areas controlled by Fitna-al-Khwarij and the Afghan Taliban,” the ISPR said.

The Pakistani military also claimed that the attacks were “regrettably orchestrated through divided villages in the area without regard for civilian populations.”

“Afghan Taliban also destroyed the Friendship Gate on their side of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, clearly demonstrating their disregard for mutual trade and the rights of divided tribes,” the ISPR added.

Twelve civilians were killed and about 100 people were injured in Afghanistan as a result of a series of strikes by Pakistani forces, according to a representative of the Taliban movement.

Heavy clashes have resumed along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border, Tolo News reports.

The fighting broke out near the Spin Boldak–Chaman border crossing, where the “Friendship Gate” was reportedly destroyed in the exchange of fire.

Local residents stated that the confrontation began early in the morning when Pakistani forces shelled areas near Spin Boldak in Afghanistan’s Kandahar Province with heavy weapons, prompting Taliban forces to return fire.

The Pakistan Army opened fire in response to an attack on its border posts in Kurram District of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, near the border with Afghanistan, the country’s armed forces said in a statement, per Pakistan TV.

“Fires broke out at the militants’ posts, and the Taliban fled, leaving behind several of their dead,” the statement said.

The escalation follows a report by Afghanistan’s Tolo News, which stated that an exchange of fire occurred late on October 13 between Afghan and Pakistani troops in Afghanistan’s Zazai Maidan District of Khost Province.

In the morning of October 14, another clash reportedly took place between border guards of both countries in Shorabak District of Kandahar Province.

The latest exchange comes after the neighbouring countries engaged in a cross-border assault on the night of October 11–12. According to the Pakistani military, Afghan Taliban fighters and allied militants launched coordinated attacks along multiple border sectors.

Pakistani forces repelled the offensive, killing over 200 attackers, while 23 soldiers embraced martyrdom, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.
