Media reports possible delay in publication of draft Armenian Constitution
Armenian authorities may postpone the publication of the draft new Constitution in order to avoid political risks ahead of the election period, according to media reports.
Citing sources in the Constitutional Court, the newspaper Hraparak reported that discussions are underway regarding a possible delay. Earlier, Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan stated that the draft text would be ready by June 7.
According to the report, the proposed constitutional changes go beyond the removal of references to the Declaration of Independence, which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has previously mentioned, and include a broader set of amendments.
The newspaper also claims that the ruling Civil Contract party is working on mechanisms that would allow constitutional legislation to be adopted even without a constitutional majority in parliament.
