Media: Turkish FM to visit Ukraine for talks on peace efforts, Black Sea security

15 July 2026 12:08

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will visit Ukraine on July 15–16 for talks focused on efforts to end the war, security in the Black Sea, and bilateral cooperation, a source at Türkiye's Foreign Ministry told TASS.

According to the source, Fidan will stress that the conflict should not spread to the Black Sea and will call for measures to reduce tensions and safeguard maritime navigation.

The minister is also expected to emphasise that attacks on ports and vessels, including fishing boats, in the Black Sea are unacceptable and to reaffirm Türkiye's commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

During the visit, Fidan will reiterate Ankara's readiness to help bring Ukraine and Russia back to the negotiating table and underline Türkiye's determination to preserve the Black Sea as a region of peace, stability and cooperation.

In Kyiv, Fidan is expected to discuss ways to strengthen Turkish-Ukrainian cooperation in areas including the economy, energy and defence, as well as opportunities for Türkiye's participation in Ukraine's reconstruction projects.

The Turkish foreign minister is scheduled to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Head of the Presidential Administration Kyrylo Budanov, and Security Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
