Media: UK foreign secretary urges Starmer to step down
Britain's Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, has privately urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to step down, according to reports by Sky News.
Cooper, one of Starmer's most senior cabinet ministers and a key figure within the governing Labour Party, delivered the message during a private conversation with the prime minister over the weekend.
The intervention comes as Starmer is said to be considering whether to resign, with British media suggesting an announcement on his future could come as early as June 22.
The political uncertainty has fueled speculation about potential successors and the future direction of the Labour government. Attention has also focused on the return of Andy Burnham to Westminster, where he is due to be sworn in as a member of parliament, further intensifying discussion about possible leadership changes.
Adding to the pressure, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on June 21 that Starmer would resign after failing "badly on two very important subjects." In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized the British leader's handling of immigration and energy policy and called for expanded oil production in the North Sea.
