Media: US restricts intelligence sharing after information leak in Seoul
The United States is reportedly considering limiting intelligence sharing with South Korea following South Korean Minister of Unification Chung Dong-young’s remarks, which may disclose publicly sensitive information provided to Seoul.
US authorities expressed dissatisfaction over the issue, Caliber.Az reports, citing the newspaper Dong-A Ilbo.
Chung referred to uranium enrichment facilities in North Korea, including one in Kusong on March 6 parliamentary remarks.
However, the publication noted that the city was not mentioned in a report by International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi.
Ministry of Unification stated that the minister’s comments were based on publicly available data from US think tanks and did not include information obtained from other agencies.
One of the sources claimed that the American side has already informed South Korea of its intention to reduce the scale of intelligence sharing.
Seoul said it had not received any formal protest from Washington, but had already conveyed its position to the US side.
According to sources, the United States may have partially restricted intelligence sharing on North Korea, although this has not been confirmed.
