Munich airport suspends operations after drone sighting
Operations at Munich International Airport were suspended on Saturday morning, May 30, after pilots reported spotting an unidentified object in the air, believed to be a drone, according to local media reports.
“Around 9 a.m., pilots spotted a suspicious object,” a spokesperson for the Federal Police told Bild, confirming the initial sighting.
According to Tag24, the control tower received alerts from pilots of two separate aircraft about the suspected drone, prompting an immediate response.
Authorities deployed a significant number of security personnel across the airport, while a helicopter was sent to monitor the situation from the air. The presence of the unidentified object led to a halt in airport operations as a precautionary measure.
The incident echoes a similar disruption last autumn, when Munich Airport also suspended operations due to reports of a drone in its airspace.
Germany has previously taken a firm stance on such incidents, becoming the first country to publicly state that it considers Russia responsible for the launch of drones near European airports.
