Medvedev: Russia can prevent food crises

Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitriy Medvedev has said that Russia has every opportunity to prevent food crises.

He noted that the West backs down on the issue of sanctions when it comes to vital things, RIA Novosti reports, quoting him as saying on his Telegram channel.

"No one has ever harvested on TV and the Internet. This requires fields and agricultural machinery, fertilizers and hands accustomed to sowing bread, and not signing stupid decisions. Russia knows how to do this, we have every opportunity to ensure that other countries have food, and food crises do not happen. Just don't interfere with our work," Medvedev wrote.

He noted that countries importing Russian wheat and other food products will have a hard time without Russian supplies.

"Now it looks like the West is backing down. Once again, it was confirmed that all these hellish sanctions are worthless when it comes to vital things. About the supply of energy resources in order to heat houses. About food to feed people. About millions of citizens who, in general, need one thing from politicians: the opportunity to live normally, calmly and safely. Sanctions prevent this," Medvedev added.

He noted that he had spoken with Namibian President Hage Gottfried Geingob on May 19, and the African partners expressed understanding of the situation.

"Our African friends understand this, by the way. And they understand that rich countries impose sanctions to make the poor poorer. And to force the sanctioned patients to behave correctly under the threat of hunger riots. Americans and Europeans, after all, will not remain without food, even at exorbitant prices. Moreover, it is ordinary Europeans who will pay these three prices, and not those in power," Medvedev said.
