Messaging giant Telegram removes over 187,000 groups in one day

Messaging platform Telegram has blocked 187,634 groups and channels in a single day, marking one of the highest daily figures reported in recent weeks.

Platform data indicates that 235,282 communities were removed on February 15, the largest daily total since January 23, when 300,840 groups and channels were blocked.

Since the beginning of February 2026, Telegram has restricted access to 2.04 million communities, including 7,116 associated with terrorism. Overall, the total number of blocked groups and channels since the start of the year has approached 7.5 million, of which 27,382 were linked to terrorist activity.

Telegram highlighted that its moderation system, in place since 2015, combines user complaints with proactive monitoring using machine learning. In early 2024, the platform enhanced these measures by introducing AI-based moderation tools to improve the detection and removal of harmful content.

The company continues to emphasize that its approach blends automated systems with community reporting, aiming to curb the spread of illegal and extremist content while maintaining platform integrity.
