MFA: Belarus to respond to any border incursion
Belarus has warned that it will respond decisively to any unauthorised crossing of its borders, amid ongoing tensions linked to the war in neighbouring Ukraine.
Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Sekret said Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko had made clear that the country's borders constitute its "red lines," Caliber.Az reports per Belarusian media.
“The red lines have been clearly defined by our president. These are our borders,” Sekret said.
Commenting on the possibility of attacks by Ukrainian forces, Sekret said Belarus would use all available means to respond if its territory came under attack or its borders were crossed by force.
“If the [Belarusian] border is crossed without permission or accompanied by aggression, we will respond by using our full potential,” the deputy foreign minister said.
Sekret added that Ukrainian authorities were aware of Belarus's position.
The comments come in response to recent Ukrainian demands that Belarus remove signal repeaters allegedly used to guide Russian drone strikes on Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Lukashenko had been given a one-week deadline to dismantle the equipment in question or face unilateral action by Kyiv. Zelenskyy also accused Russia of attempting to draw Belarus deeper into the conflict, warning that such developments could have broader regional implications, including potential risks for NATO members.
