MFA: Huge resources directed at disinformation campaign targeting Russia
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that vast resources are being channelled into a disinformation campaign targeting Russia and its allies.
Speaking at the Vserossiysky media forum “YUNKOR Media Forum”, Zakharova argued that online falsehoods have evolved into a full-fledged industry, claiming that “colossal resources” are being directed towards information and disinformation efforts against Russia, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
She cited figures referenced by Igor Ashmanov, a member of the presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, who previously suggested that the United States and the United Kingdom had allocated up to $2 billion to information-related efforts involving Ukraine.
Zakharova further characterised disinformation as a modern weapon comparable in impact to weapons of mass destruction, stating that false information and online “fakes” now pose risks on par with nuclear, chemical or biological threats.
Her comments reflect Moscow’s continued emphasis on information security as part of its broader geopolitical narrative amid heightened tensions with Western countries.
