Middle East ceasefire in focus: Turkish, Iranian FMs engage in strategic call
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi held a phone conversation to address the ongoing ceasefire situation in the Middle East.
Fidan expressed Türkiye’s satisfaction with the temporary truce and emphasised that efforts toward achieving a long-term, lasting peace will continue, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
A conditional two‑week ceasefire was agreed between the United States and Iran on April 8, aimed at pausing hostilities after weeks of escalated conflict; the deal requires Iran to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz and halt offensive operations while both sides pursue negotiations toward a lasting peace settlement.
The truce follows intense military engagements, including US and allied strikes and Iranian responses, which disrupted global energy routes, raised oil prices and involved diplomatic mediation by Pakistan, Türkiye and Egypt.
World leaders and international bodies have welcomed the ceasefire as a temporary de‑escalation, urging all parties to comply and work toward a broader, durable resolution in the Middle East, reflecting concerns over civilian protection and regional stability.
