Minister: Kazakhstan resumes grain exports to Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia

04 November 2025 11:23

Kazakhstan has resumed grain exports to Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia after successfully stabilising domestic supplies despite earlier weather-related concerns, Agriculture Minister Aidarbek Saparov said, according to Kazakh media outlets.

Saparov addressed public worries that heavy snowfall in the country’s northern regions earlier this year might reduce harvest volumes to a level insufficient even for domestic consumption. He assured that grain production had fully met internal needs, allowing Kazakhstan to continue exporting confidently to foreign markets.

“The volume of grain was sufficient, and domestic grain is now being steadily shipped to global markets,” Saparov stated, emphasising that Kazakhstan plans to maintain its strong export performance.

He noted that grain exports for the previous season reached 13.4 million tons — a 47 per cent increase compared to the previous marketing year — largely thanks to transportation subsidies that helped boost overseas shipments. To sustain this momentum, the government has extended its export support measures until September 1, 2026.

According to Saparov, Kazakhstan has also entered several new, non-traditional markets in 2025, exporting grain to Belgium, Portugal, Poland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, and North African countries, including Morocco, Algeria, and Egypt. He highlighted that Egypt purchased Kazakh wheat for the first time in 15 years.

In addition to expanding into new destinations, Kazakhstan has resumed grain deliveries to key regional partners — Iran, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.

“Demand for our grain remains high,” Saparov said. “From the new harvest, we have already exported about 2.2 million tons, which is 21 per cent more than during the same period last season.”
