Minister: Türkiye stands for progress in grain exporting from Ukraine
Türkiye is making active efforts to form a corridor for the export of grain accumulated due to the war in the Black Sea ports of Ukraine.
The war between Russia and Ukraine had a negative impact on food security in many regions of the world, Anadolu agency reports referring to the Turkish National Defence Minister Hulusi Akar.
“We aim to achieve a result on this issue as soon as possible. We maintain a dialogue with the Russian Federation and Ukraine, we are holding discussions with the UN. Some progress has been made, " he noted
"However, there are technical issues that remain the subject of discussion. In particular: How will the corridor function? How and who will clear (ports) from mines. Which ships will accompany the dry cargo ships,” the minister noted.
When asked about who would be the guarantor of the effectiveness of the corridor, Akar said: "At the moment, Türkiye is coordinating this process."
Commenting on the possibility of organizing negotiations in Türkiye on the export of Ukrainian grain, Akar said: “Meetings are possible. Last Saturday, the UN representative held talks with a representative of our ministry. In view of the will of the parties to resolve the issue, the process is moving forward.”
When asked if there are moments that slow down the dialogue, the Turkish minister replied: “The main problem is trust. Each of the parties wants to have guarantees on certain issues. For our part, we strive to ensure this atmosphere of trust.”
