Armenian opposition faction nominates Republican party member for PM
The opposition faction “I Have Honour” in the Armenian National Assembly has officially nominated David Hambardzumyan, head of the Masis community and a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Council, as their candidate for the post of Prime Minister. The nomination comes as part of an initiated impeachment process targeting current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“Taking into account the statement of the Executive Body of the Republican Party of Armenia, the I Have Honour faction unanimously decided, in accordance with the constitutional law ‘Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly,’ to propose a motion of no confidence in the Prime Minister, nominating David Hambardzumyan as a candidate,” the head of the I Have Honour faction, Hayk Mamijanyan, announced on Facebook following a session held on June 7, Caliber.Az reports.
Earlier, the RPA—led by former President Serzh Sargsyan—urged the I Have Honour faction to initiate a no-confidence vote against Pashinyan. Previous reports had indicated that the RPA intended to nominate its deputy chairman, Armen Ashotyan, as the opposition’s candidate for Prime Minister.
