Russian Federation Council chair arrives in Armenia for official visit

A high-level delegation from Russia’s Federation Council, headed by Chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko, has arrived in Armenia for an official visit, according to the Council’s press service.

The visit includes a series of meetings with Armenia’s top leadership, underscoring ongoing parliamentary cooperation between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

One of the key events on the agenda is a meeting between Matviyenko and Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly.

Matviyenko and Simonyan are also set to jointly open the 39th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Cooperation between the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. This year’s session is dedicated to the theme: “The 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory: Unity in Preserving Historical Memory for Future Generations.”

The Russian delegation includes several prominent members of the Federation Council: Deputy Speaker Yuri Vorobyov; Chairman of the Committee on Defense and Security Vladimir Bulavin; First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov; Deputy Chair of the Committee on Social Policy Yulia Lazutkina; Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Self-Government, and Affairs of the North Alexander Uss; member of the International Affairs Committee Alexander Karelin; and member of the Social Policy Committee Andrey Chernyshev.
