US customs team’s arrival in Armenia still pending, FM Mirzoyan says
Specialists from the United States Customs and Border Protection have not yet arrived in Armenia, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan confirmed in parliament this week, responding to a deputy’s inquiry.
Mirzoyan clarified that the planned visit is part of broader cooperation aimed at enhancing Armenia’s border control capabilities, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
However, he emphasised there is no intention or discussion regarding the deployment of American border guards on Armenia’s borders.
To recall, the visit was originally scheduled under the framework of the Strategic Partnership Charter signed between Armenia and the United States in January 2025. During the signing ceremony in Washington, then-US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced that “a customs and border control team will arrive in Armenia in the coming days to collaborate with Armenian officials on strengthening border security.”
Despite these plans, the US team’s arrival has yet to materialise.
