PM Kobakhidze reaffirms Georgia’s EU ambition, calls for fair treatment from West
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has reaffirmed the country's ambition to join the European Union by 2030, expressing confidence that Georgia will be better prepared for membership than other candidate nations by that time.
Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze emphasized that this objective is enshrined in the nation’s Constitution and remains a central focus of his government’s policy, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“Our goal is reflected in the Constitution of Georgia. Our goal is to become a member of the European Union by 2030, which is quite possible if a fair approach is ensured. In 2030, Georgia will be the most ready to join the EU. If there is a fair approach, it will definitely happen. We hope that the approaches in the EU will be improved,” Kobakhidze stated.
The Prime Minister also addressed current tensions with Western partners, criticizing what he described as “rude and unfounded statements” directed at the ruling Georgian Dream party, accusing them of “anti-European” behavior. Kobakhidze suggested that such rhetoric is unproductive and undermines the collaborative spirit necessary for Georgia’s European integration.
Georgia’s EU membership aspirations have faced challenges amid geopolitical pressures and domestic political controversies.
