Kazakhstan, US target expanded cooperation in energy sector
Kazakhstan and the United States have reaffirmed their shared commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy said.
According to the ministry, cited by Caliber.Az, a meeting was held on January 23 with representatives of the US Department of Energy and the US Embassy in Kazakhstan, David Wilbor and Gordon Tate. The discussions focused on the current state of the energy dialogue between the two countries and the prospects for its further development.
Special emphasis was placed on the implementation of Kazakhstan’s strategic priorities in the oil and gas sector. Vice Minister of Energy Sanzhar Zharkeshov underscored the pivotal role of large-scale oil and gas projects, noting that they are critically important for the country’s economic development and for ensuring national energy security.
The sides also examined opportunities to deepen cooperation in the coal industry and coal chemistry. These discussions included the introduction of modern coal-processing technologies, measures to improve production efficiency, and the enhancement of environmental standards through the application of international best practices.
In addition, the participants highlighted the Strategic Energy Dialogue (SED) between Kazakhstan and the US as a key institutional platform for bilateral engagement. The SED was described as an effective mechanism for expanding expert cooperation, sharing best practices, and developing coordinated approaches to priority areas of energy policy.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation, advancing strategic energy dialogue, and ensuring Kazakhstan’s active participation in major international industry platforms, including CERAWeek.
