Iran denies Trump claim of 800 planned executions
Iran’s prosecutor general, Mohammad Movahedi Azad, has rejected claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding executions in Iran, stating that the judiciary never planned such actions and operates independently of foreign influence, Iran International reports.
Trump had previously asserted that Iran intended to execute over 800 protesters but purportedly halted the move following warnings from him.
“The US president has said he stopped the execution of 800 people in Iran, but this is completely false,” Movahedi Azad told Iranian media. “Neither does such a number exist, nor has the judiciary made such a decision.”
He further emphasized the independence of Iran’s judicial system: “The judiciary is an independent institution and does not take orders from foreigners.”
