Armenia confirms Azerbaijani gasoline meets EAEU standard
Armenia’s Market Surveillance Authority has reported no quality issues with gasoline imported from Azerbaijan, according to its head, Armen Kotolyan, speaking at a press conference on January 23.
Kotolyan said that fuel samples from imported batches had undergone laboratory testing at Armenia’s National Centre for Standardisation and Metrology, with results showing that the gasoline met the technical requirements of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
He added that while no quality violations were detected, inspections at gas stations do not determine the country of origin of the fuel being sold.
Addressing the broader fuel market situation, Kotolyan noted that inspections conducted in 2025 identified violations in 13.4% of cases, primarily related to the underfilling of vehicles. He also reported that some diesel fuel samples exceeded permissible mercury content limits, while in certain cases gasoline was found to be lighter than indicated in accompanying documentation.
In December 2024, Armenia received its first shipment of gasoline from Azerbaijan in several decades. The delivery, totaling 1,200 tons of petroleum products, was transported via Georgia. In early January, Azerbaijan followed up with an additional shipment consisting of 6,100 tons of gasoline and 1,500 tons of diesel fuel.
