Drone strike sets oil depot ablaze in Russia’s Penza region
An oil depot in the Russian city of Penza caught fire after being hit by a drone, Penza Region Governor Oleg Melnichenko said. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.
Emergency services were deployed to the site of the incident. “Firefighting units are working at the scene, including 46 personnel and 14 pieces of equipment,” Melnichenko wrote on his Telegram channel.
The security situation escalated overnight. At around 1:40 a.m., authorities introduced a “drone threat” regime in the Penza Region. From 2:30 a.m., the “Carpet” plan was put into effect, and Penza Airport suspended operations. Later, at 4:54 a.m., the governor announced that an “air threat” regime had been declared in the city itself.
According to Melnichenko, warning sirens sounded across Penza, while residents were alerted to the danger through SMS messages and television broadcasts.
