Matvienko’s Armenia visit sparks anti-Kremlin demonstration outside parliament VIDEO
On June 6, a group of activists staged a protest outside Armenia’s National Assembly in Yerevan during the official visit of Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the Federation Council of Russia.
Demonstrators assembled near the parliament building carrying anti-Russian placards, as well as Armenian and European Union flags, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The protest coincided with a meeting between Matviyenko and the speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly, Alen Simonyan.
Activists attempted to make their voices heard as the Russian delegation arrived, shouting slogans and aiming to confront the officials. When a deputy police chief asked the crowd to move away from the gates, protesters responded aggressively, warning, “Get out of the way! Don’t interfere! Don’t make us turn the street upside down!”
It should be noted that the Russian Federation Council delegation, with Valentina Matviyenko at its head, arrived in Yerevan on June 5.
