Moscow advises Armenia to weigh EU “guidelines” in policy decisions
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has said that Armenia’s leadership should take into account the “guidelines” and approaches of the European Union, while drawing a contrast between the EU and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Speaking on the issue, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova argued that cooperation within the EAEU is not politicised, describing this as a fundamental distinction from the EU, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
According to Zakharova, the EAEU operates on principles of equality, mutual respect, and market-based rules, including fair competition and legality. At the same time, she sharply criticised the European Union’s governance model.
“Work within the EAEU is built on the basis of respect and equality, on the principles of a free market, fair competition and legality. And do you remember that the main, well, as we now understand, practical task of the Brussels bureaucracy is to ensure that citizens of their countries, of their union, live worse, not better? Well, if Nikol Vovaevich Pashinyan associates himself precisely with the Brussels bureaucracy, then he probably also accepts these so-called guidelines,” Zakharova said.
