Moscow bans Russian anti-war committee, labeling it terrorist organisation

The Supreme Court of Russia has declared the international non-governmental organisation Russian Anti-War Committee (UK) a terrorist organisation and banned its activities across the Russian Federation, the court’s press service said. 

According to the court, the Judicial Panel on Administrative Cases determined that the goals and actions of the committee were "aimed at promoting, justifying, and supporting terrorism." The decision, which also covers the organisation’s structural divisions, is subject to immediate enforcement, Caliber.Az reports via TASS. 

The proceedings were held behind closed doors, with no audience or press present.

The lawsuit was filed earlier by the Prosecutor General’s Office, which noted that the committee’s founder and coordinator, Mikhail Khodorkovsky—who is currently living abroad and is listed in Russia as a foreign agent and as a terrorist and extremist—was acting in line with the organisation’s objectives. The office also stated that leaders and active members of the committee have already been convicted in criminal cases related to terrorism.
