Moscow man held over plot targeting senior official’s convoy

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained a 33-year-old Moscow resident suspected of preparing an attack on the motorcade of a senior government official.

According to the FSB, the suspect had previously joined a terrorist organization and was allegedly preparing to carry out an explosion targeting the official’s motorcade.

Investigators say the suspect had studied methods for making improvised explosive devices and had acquired components allegedly intended for their construction.

The FSB said the suspect was detained before the alleged plot could be carried out.
