Moscow: Putin and Trump’s upcoming call to focus on Ukraine crisis

17 March 2025 22:12

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that the primary topic of the upcoming conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will focus on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

His statement was shared on the Telegram channel of a correspondent, Caliber.Az reports.

Peskov noted that the discussions are centred around this key issue.

"The main issue, of course, is the Ukrainian settlement. Therefore, talking points are being prepared for the president," Peskov said.

He also commented on the speed with which such telephone conversations can be arranged, highlighting that these discussions can be set up quickly when necessary.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump announced he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday to discuss ending the war in Ukraine. "We want to see if we can bring that war to an end," Trump said during a flight back to Washington. "Maybe we can, maybe we can't, but I think we have a very good chance."

Trump aims to gain Putin's support for a 30-day ceasefire proposal accepted by Ukraine last week. This comes amid continued heavy aerial strikes and Russia's advances in the Kursk region.

Trump also mentioned discussions about "land" and "power plants," likely referring to the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, where both sides have accused each other of endangering safety.
