Moscow : Restoration of transport routes to benefit entire South Caucasus
Russian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that the restoration of transport routes in the South Caucasus region is being thoroughly considered by a tripartite working group co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“We are sure that a mutually acceptable solution that would guarantee the sovereignty and jurisdiction of each country over the routes passing through its national territory may be and should be found in this format. Such agreements, based on a balance of interests, will benefit the regional countries and neighbouring countries, including Russia, Türkiye and Iran,” she noted, Caliber.Az reports with reference to Russian media.
The trilateral ceasefire deal signed by the Azerbaijani, Russian and Armenian leaders on November 10, 2020, ended the three-decade conflict over Azerbaijan’s Garabagh region which along with the seven adjacent districts came under the occupation of Armenian armed forces in the war in the early 1990s.
On January 11, 2021, the Azerbaijani, Russian and Armenian leaders signed the second statement since the end of the 44-day war. The newly signed statement was set to implement clause 9 of the November 2020 statement related to the unblocking of all economic and transport communications in the region.
