Ankara slams EU parliament report, denounces allegations as 'biased and groundless’
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has condemned the adoption of the 2023–2024 Türkiye Report by the European Parliament, denying what it called “distorted, prejudiced and baseless allegations.”
In a statement released shortly after the adoption of the document, the ministry said it "rejects the unfounded assessments" made by the European institution regarding Türkiye’s internal political dynamics, foreign policy, and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Caliber.Az reports via the statement.

“We reject the unfounded assessments of an institution that provides propaganda grounds for terrorist organizations and the groups that have made anti-Türkiye sentiments their raison d'être, on the political dynamics in our country, our foreign policy and the visit of our President to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,” the statement reads.
Furthermore, the ministry urged the European Parliament to fulfil its responsibilities.
"In the coming period, we expect the EP to fulfill its responsibilities to ensure that our relations with the EU, including our accession process, continue on the basis of mutual benefit," the statement finalised.
On May 7, Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) adopted a resolution with 367 votes in favour, 74 against, and 188 abstentions, freezing Türkiye’s EU accession bit. The resolution stated Türkiye’s EU accession process cannot resume “under current circumstances,” despite the “democratic and pro-European aspirations of a large part of Turkish society.”
