Pashinyan denies plans for snap parliamentary elections in Armenia
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has dismissed speculation about the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections, stating that no such plans are being considered.
Pashinyan said the government is operating according to its regular schedule and has no intention of initiating snap elections, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
“We are not planning to hold early parliamentary elections. The government is working as scheduled,” he told reporters, attributing recent rumours to his ongoing direct engagement with citizens.
Note that, Armenia’s parliamentary elections are expected in 2026, with no plans for early voting, according to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. A major development ahead of the polls is the planned drafting of a new constitution. Justice Minister Grigor Minasyan stated that the draft aims to modernise Armenia’s legal framework and reflect democratic progress since the 2018 revolution.
The constitutional reform also carries regional significance. Azerbaijan has raised concerns over references in Armenia’s current constitution that it perceives as implying territorial claims.
